ATTENTION
February 2007
Yes, we still have a chapter and yes we have a schedule of events for 2007. A lot has happened to our local chapter in the last couple of years and it’s time we rebuilt our foundation in order to move forward.
Issues we must address this year include:
1. Communication
SOLUTION: We are developing a website (courtesy of Dave Borchers at Anemostat) that will have the current membership info listed so each of you will be able to verify or change as needed, your own personal information (you can also edit your personal profile via www.dhi.org). The membership list was sent to us by DHI National, and is as current as your last membership renewal information. So if you haven’t kept DHI National current, you may not be receiving this information. We are making an effort to get current email addresses locally, and will try and have the best membership list possible. We are also going to invite some non-members, with the hope that through their participation, they would choose to join DHI. We are also going to make every effort to notify you in advance of local activities so that you and your people, or out of town manufacturers, may attend, or participate. This new website will be up before our March 14, 2007 meeting and will be a place where current news, upcoming events, pictures and downloadable event sign-up sheets will be available. The site will also be linked to DHI National.
2. Leadership and Support
SOLUTION: We formed a steering committee to help get us back on track:
a. Hank Krueger: Chairman and former DHI Board of Governors for 8 years.
E-mail
(310) 835-7500
b. Michael Martinez: Former SW Chapter officer for 12 years.
E-mail
(714) 744-6944
c. Scott Sabatini: Currently Vice President, DHI Board of Governors and will be President of DHI in 2010.
E-mail
(800) 872-3267 ext.2336
d. John Gutsu: Former SW Chapter Officer for 3 years.
E-mail
(714) 744-6944
e. Ron Hansen: Hard worker, good golfer and former distributor.
E-mail
(310) 835-7500
Our goal is to revitalize, organize and develop a base from which the chapter can operate successfully. A strong base can then be passed on to newly elected officers (in 2007) to help insure their future success.
3. Finances
SOLUTION: Last year our Chapter was not in a good financial situation. A successful golf outing helped to put us back in the black. As a non-profit organization our goal is to run successful events that generate funds to spend on our local membership to further their education, knowledge and social standing in the Door and Hardware business in Southern California. We will make sure this continues.
4. Training/Education/People
SOLUTION: DHI National has chapter leadership training in June for the new elected president. The steering committee will continue to work with and support the new slate of officers. One of the first things we need to do is to find and update the chapter by laws (does anyone have a copy or have the original?) or we can use a template provided by DHI National to get us back on track.
We will achieve our goals with everyone’s help. Please contact any of the steering committee members if you would be willing to serve as an officer or have idea’s you’d like to communicate. Please, we need new blood and new leadership. |
